Manga del Brujo
If you love France’s Châteauneuf-du-Pape, then head to the Spanish region of Calatayud, where you’ll also find incredible reds starring Grenache (aka Garnacha).
Manga del Brujo is a classic Châteauneuf blend of hand-harvested Grenache (70 percent) and Syrah (15 percent), with splashes of local Tempranillo and Cariñena. After a cool fermentation, it was aged for 15 months in cement tanks (to preserve the fruit character); half the wine was then barrel aged for a further six months to add extra complexity.
Fruit-driven, but with an extra dimension of complexity, red fruit, licorice, fennel and Mediterranean herbs. … supple and tasty. At this price level, this is superb. Great value.
